About the Journal

Contingent Horizons: The York University Student Journal of Anthropology is an open-access, peer-reviewed anthropology student journal published by York University’s Department of Anthropology. The journal is published annually. The journal’s online publication is hosted by York Digital Journals.

The aim of the journal is to provide a platform for graduate and undergraduate students to publish their anthropological scholarly work in a peer-reviewed academic journal. The journal is committed to a variety of formats, including ethnographic research articles, reviews (of books, films, albums, and exhibits), and creative pieces (such as photo essays, creative non-fiction pieces, pedagogical tools, fieldwork reflections, and scholarly interviews). 

The journal is governed by an Editorial Board comprised of students and faculty in the Department of Anthropology at York University. All journal activities, including annual publication, are managed by an Editorial Collective of graduate and undergraduate students, appointed by the Board.

The journal is committed to an ethos of social justice.
